Overview

Desiree D'Alessandro is a contemporary artist from Tampa, Florida who earned her Master of Fine Arts in New Genres and Extended Praxes from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She was a UC Regents Special Fellow, UC Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI) Scholar, and Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Advanced Collaboratory (HASTAC) Scholar.

D'Alessandro has experience in public, private, and for-profit education, specializing in traditional and digital media. Her artworks have been exhibited nationally at museums and galleries within New York, California, Florida, Illinois, New Mexico, and Massachusetts. Her works have also been exhibited internationally at lectures and alternative venues in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, Canada, Hungary, and Switzerland. Her critical writings have been published in academic journals and she has presented and chaired sessions at diverse conferences.

DESIGN350: This course covers the origins of typography and founders of notable typefaces, as well as how typography has changed in recent history. Advanced-level critique, interpretation of messages, and conceptual application is explored. Advanced typographic application is utilized as a visual in design and sole imagery is defined.

GRAPH280: Advanced studio course examines the process and purpose of graphic design at the professional level. Students incorporate effective grid design and research in the creation of dynamic and innovative design solutions.

GRAPH260: This course focuses on the role of the designer in the development of a media campaign. Processes and guidelines used in the creation of a design series are discussed, as are time and budget constraints. Thumbnail sketches, storyboards, hand-drawn exemplars, and classroom presentations are used to refine ideas prior to final rendering on the computer.
